Parish Envelopes 2018
It has come to the time of the year when the new boxes of envelopes are now available for collection from the porches of our churches. As people are aware, Newbridge is one of the largest parishes in the country, this brings many challenges as well as financial ones. As well as major projects/maintenance of parish properties, there is the day to day running of the parish. This includes wages, heating, electricity, insurance, repairs and all of the other expenses that make up parish life. All of these costs are paid out of the contributions of parishioners, who continue to support the weekly collections so generously at our masses. The majority of the funds come in through our Parish Envelope System. A number of parishioners have supported the envelope collection for many years and have received their box of envelopes over the past few days. For those who have not contributed through the envelope system, perhaps you might consider taking a box of envelopes? (They will be in the porches of the churches over the coming weekends). Another option is setting up a Bank Standing Order for your contribution (details will be in the box of envelopes). It has been mentioned that parishioners who contribute through a Standing Order are somewhat embarrassed when the basket passes them on Sunday and they don’t place anything in the basket! I invite parishioners in this scenario to place their empty parish envelope in the basket, as they are already contributing through their Standing Order. If your contribution in any financial year is €250 (€5 per week approx.) or greater the Revenue will refund 31% of your contribution to the Parish, provided you are agreeable to provide the parish with your PPS number, which we must provide to Revenue along with the Tax Rebate Claim Form. This information does not, in any way, impact on your tax status and all information provided is strictly confidential. Last year the Parish was able to claim back almost €27,000 through this scheme. This was possible from the contributions of 80 people who paid their contribution by Standing Order and 160 people who contributed through our Marked Envelope System. (Marked envelopes available from the Parish Office only). This level of tax refund (€27,000) from the contribution of 240 people shows the enormous potential this scheme offers! You can participate in this scheme at no extra cost to you by providing the Parish with your details and making your contribution in the specially marked envelopes. Please contact the Parish Office for further details or if you have any questions. Most importantly, I thank all parishioners who continue to support Parish Funds in such a generous way. These continue to be difficult times for many and yet parishioners continue to be most supportive. I endeavour to continue working with the Parish Finance Committee to make sure that Parish Funds are managed in a responsible and accountable manner. The accounts for 2017 will be published in “News & Views” in the coming months.
Many thanks! Fr. Paul Dempsey P.P.
