In the Easter Gospel, we hear how the disciples found the tomb empty three days after Jesus’ death. We are also told that they do not yet understand the Scriptures or that Jesus had been raised from the dead. That understanding gradually unfolded for the disciples as they began to experience the risen Lord. Similarly, our understanding of Jesus’ Resurrection unfolds for us throughout our lives. In the weeks ahead, we will hear how the first disciples moved from confusion, doubt and scepticism to faith. Their experience can also be ours. Life can be strange, a journey with many twists and turns. Sometimes we find ourselves stuck at Good Friday, unable to lift the burden of the cross from our shoulders. However, Easter Sunday offers us the hope to keep going and to never give up! St. Augustine said that “We are an Easter people and Alleluia is our song!” May that song echo in our hearts as we continue to strive for a deeper faith in the Risen Lord.
