The first Pentecost must have been an exciting time to be alive in the Church. The atmosphere was joyful, change was in the air and the outpouring of God’s love upon all of creation was like a river in flood. However, the coming of the Holy Spirit was not something that happened only at the foundation of the Church. The living breath of God is at work in every age. The gift of the Holy Spirit, given at Pentecost, is available to each of us, provided we are open and willing to receive it.

This weekend over 350 young people will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. They will be welcomed as full members of our Church. We pray that they will be open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit in their lives and that they will have the courage necessary to follow Jesus in today’s world. We congratulate all the parents and guardians for bringing their children to this stage of their faith journey.
May God’s blessing come upon us all on this day and may we be inspired by the early apostles to lead our Church into new and exciting times where the message of Jesus is alive for all.

Burial afterwards in St. Conleth’s Cemetery, Newbridge.

A Prayer for our Bishop Elect
O God,
we pray for our Bishop elect, Denis.
Filled with your Spirit, may he minister with wisdom, understanding, knowledge and right judgement.
In his leadership of our diocese may he display courage, reverence and a deep sense of wonder and awe in your presence.
Hold him close to your heart that he may be an instrument of your love and compassion in the service of your people. Amen.

Gracious God,
We thank you for the many blessings which you have given to the people of this diocese.
May we find joy in our faith and be renewed in our hope.
May all who struggle know your love and care.
